Online Limo Scheduling and Reservation
When starting a limousine rental company, you will need to know all government regulations that come with this kind of business. Limo companies fall under luxury, and that has its regulations. The government has put in place rules that should be followed by every car hiring company; that includes the Limo rental companies. This article will guide you on the regulations you are expected to adhere to as you start a limo company.
Some of the limos with a passenger capacity of up to 8 do not require licensing for events such as weddings and funerals. The limousine must be operated by a licensed operator if they are rented out without a Chauffeur. For private limousines, you need a Private Hire Vehicle (PHV) operator license. For bigger limos with a passenger capacity of more than 9, you will be required to have a Public Sector Vehicle (PSV) operator license.
There is a need for Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) for all stretch limousines for them to be registered and licensed. Some of the vehicle standards required for licensing include:
Individual Vehicle Approval - When importing a limo, you must state its use so as to determine its licensing procedure. There are different methods for different capacity vehicles.
Vehicle Identification Number - Before undergoing an IVA inspection, you must ensure your limousine has a Vehicle Identification number.
An IVA inspection applies to both motorcycle and Vehicles. There are two IVA inspection Levels, that is, Basic and Normal. You have to understand the two when starting a limo business.
A Basic IVA is done to make sure the limo has met the required standards. The IVA will be visual. There is no need for documents. A basic IVA mainly applies if your vehicle falls into certain categories. Some of the categories include: Very Low Volume Production Vehicles, Left-hand Drive Vehicles, and Rebuilt Vehicles.
The Normal IVA applies to vehicles that do not fall into the categories stated in Basic IVA. Most Limousine operators fall under the Normal IVA. You are required to provide your limo for this inspection for it to be allowed operation.
A model report is an issuance of verification, where the inspector verifies that your car is similar to one that has already been approved service in the country. You provide a Model Report for that verification. If the model you wish to import does not have an already existing Model Report, you will need to pay for a test that will be carried out by an authorized provider.
Appeal against refusal
By chance, your limo has not been approved as fit for the road. Or the model of the car is not allowed into the country. You can appeal against that refusal and have the vehicle re-examined. You can opt to have an independent inspector carry out the inspection process. An Appeal against refusal should be made within 14 days after the decision is made. The vehicle should not be modified or changed in any way before the inspection is done as that will lead to cancellation of the appeal.
